How do you raise healthy children?
There are so many advice books out there for parents that it can get a little overwhelming at times. Not only are there tons of books, though, but there are also many people who would give unsolicited advice to new parents about how or when to feed their babies, how to change them, and how to control behavioral issues. The problem, though, is that much of this advice doesn't tell parents anything about raising healthy children.
Today, unhealthy children are practically an epidemic. How many children struggle with obesity, constant illness, ADD, autism, and a host of other modern problems? Our children are suffering because no one is telling parents about how to raise healthy children.
Now, though, there's a book available, Healing Our Children, that's all about how to raise healthy children. This book outlines the idea that parents can actually take responsibility for the health and well-being of their children, and that children who are almost perfectly healthy are a possibility for every family.
"It has nothing to do with luck," says the author of Healing Our Children, who explains that genetics are much less influential on our children than basics like diet. Instead, raising healthy children is all about making the right choices as a parent, a pregnant mother, or a caregiver of children.
The choices that you make as a parent will affect your children forever, but you can learn to make choices that will make your children healthier.
Diet is Key to Raising Healthy Children
One of the main components of learning how to raise healthy children is learning to feed them a healthy diet. In study after study, indigenous and native people of various locations who stick to their local diet, whether it be vegetables, fish, or fruit and grains, are much healthier than their modern counterparts who eat a "civilized" diet that includes processed foods and plenty of sugar.
For instance, in the 1930's, Dr. Andrew Price did a study about why modern civilizations often struggle with cavities and other dental problems. During his studies, Dr. Price visited Eskimos, Australian aborigines, Gaelics in Scotland, New Zealand's Maori people, and many other cultures considered to be primitive. In these cultures, hardly anyone ever had a cavity or other dental issue!
Even back in the 30's, Dr. Price knew enough to attribute the healthy teeth of native people to their diets. Today, unfortunately, we tend to only focus on how sugary snacks and sodas can cause enamel to wear off of teeth, creating a host of problems for children's teeth and their health.
The problem, though, is that raising healthy children isn't just about avoiding sugar and soda pop. Instead, children need to be on a diet as close to natural as possible, which means no processed foods, white flour, or other modernized food sources. In this way, and only this way, will parents be able to raise truly healthy children. In Healing Our Children, you can find out more about raising healthy children with healthy, wholesome foods.
