Good nutrition is the foundation of a more comfortable pregnancy, a safer birth, and the creation of a child with optimum physical health.

Our bodies, after years of neglect and sometimes a lifetime of reliance on modern foods, cannot usually absorb all the nutrients of a whole foods diet based on indigenous practices. Our modern diet has damaged our digestive system, which is now literally clogged with gunk. Merely eating healthier won’t necessarily clear up the residual toxic matter in your body. As a result, health improvements will be dramatic for some and less so for others. Most of us need to devote extensive time and energy to restoring our digestive function with special foods, diets, cleanses and alternative treatments. For many people, removing modernized foods from their diet will result in noticeable health improvements.

Pregnancy is an excellent time to significantly alter the health of your child to be. During this phase, nutrition is still a keystone of creating a robust baby.

During lactation, making dietary changes will still help you and your child in unseen ways. It will help you prepare for future children if that is in your plans, and ensure that your new baby is getting nourishing breastmilk.

Beyond these phases, you can apply these guidelines to give you and your child the fullest potential for health. Good food will give you a positive outlook on motherhood, and equip you with energy to enjoy the time with your new baby. If you have missed essential opportunities to prepare for a healthy pregnancy with nutrition, you might feel some remorse or regret. I have found that what makes this feeling linger is not past mistakes so much as it is not putting your full positive intention towards making the best out of your current life situation. Our only control over the past is to forgive ourselves for our mistakes, and to remind ourselves of our triumphs.
